Jawaani Jaaneman (2020) - Review
You rarely watch a movie where the first few mins and a song (Ole Ole 2.0) sets the tone for the entire movie. The story takes a dual approach both centering towards Saif Ali Khan, who I've got to admit, is a delight in the skin of Jazz(Jaswinder Singh). The movie wastes no time setting the stakes high as Jazz needs to get one of the owners of the building complex into agreeing to sell her house while also giving us a glimpse of his bachelor lifestyle which isn't frowned but not gracefully accepted by his family either.
While partying one night, he brings a girl home who reveals to him that she's his daughter, and LO-Behold begins a tale containing plenty of paternity tests, vodka shots, cosplay, awkward family moments while not having a single dull scene. On the other side, one of the house owners isn't budging and won't sell the house which threatens Saif-Ali Khan's profits on the sale. The unexpected pregnancy and everything ties up pretty smoothly in a delightful manner and soon the movie takes a rather dark turn for a delightful family comedy. But one scene in particular where Jazz goes from being a bachelor to a Dad to Grandfather is pretty hilarious.
Tabu plays the hippie mother of Tia to perfection and towards the end, Jazz gets a reminder how important Family really is when he sees his friend lying a hospital bed all alone and says 'FLYING SOLO YARA' Most of the dilemma in the movie is because of a tree and whether or not it ought to be chopped to build an apartment complex. To the writers, I say: UNROOT THE TREE and PLANT IT ELSEWHERE. Would have saved a sizable chunk of the runtime. Although a side story between Jazz and Kubra Sait's Rhea could have used a little more screen-time. All-in-all it ended on a happy note and All's well that ends well.
