Bloodshot (2020) Movie Review

5 mins in, he's in a tank-top, 2 mins after that, he's snapped two people bare-handed. You get the idea what you're in for.

The movie begins like any other Vin Diesel movie; with an action scene, loud bangs and gunfire. Diesel is a US military soldier who's quite impatient and kicks a lot of ass. Quick transition to back home, a mobster kidnaps him and his loved one and so it goes.

 

The movie jumps from one scene to another to little to no transition and some character development and before you know it, Diesel is a billion-dollar pilot project infused with nanites code-named 'Bloodshot'. Sam Heughan of the 'Outlander' fame plays Jimmy Dalton and most certainly does justice to the character.

The plot seems complex on the surface, but you quickly get the gist of the bad and the good. Diesel still has that gruff voice from Fast and the Furious' Dom and that image is quite embedded in our head. Like most sci-fi thrillers these days, the main man behind the project is hiding something in a very grandiose fashion and there's a love-interest or two on the side.

All and all, convoluted problems get easy fixes and there's no fear of mortality towards Diesel as he's portrayed to be invincible. We never get to empathize and fear for our protagonist as he's invincible and nothing hurts him in an almost T-1000 'esque sense.

Thematically, the movie is almost a dud. Although it does brush the concepts of identity. misguided idealism, vengeance and most of the things seem pale because we cannot shake the idea of having him as anything other than Dominick Torretto and the movie fades out into the sunset like any other Vin Diesel movie.

PS: Vin Diesel wakes up in the facility in a top-tank!
