Superman : Red Son
Superman : Red Son (2020) - Anime Movie Review
Based on the infamous comic book by Mark Millar, this Direct-to-vide adaptation by Sam Liu is every way bolstered by crisp visuals and poignant voice-cast.
The movie really answers the question - WHAT WOULD A RUSSIAN SUPERMAN BE LIKE? Answer: Not that different.
The plot begins on a distant farm like all superman movies before and eventually moving onto a cold-war era Russia and the U.S. Plenty of other characters play a significant role especially Lex Luthor, Lana Lane, Batman and Diana Prince.
Batman is a radical who wishes to rise above the communist oppression via violent means and takes Man of steel in a fist-fight much like BvS, Wonder Woman is still the soul of the movie, playing a romantic interest and also the unspoken conscience of Superman. Lex Luthor and Lana Lane also take away the chunk of movie and plot line and for good reason.
Thematically, it addressed the ideas of Oppression, Communism, Paternal Society and also what it means to be a democracy without the underlying hypocrisy and above all; the choices of an indivdiual that'll shape their life.
The crisp animation and a top-notch voice cast also helped in building up an antagonist who shall remain un-named but a hit of "∴"
